What is Enterprise Workforce Management? - Here is EntryPoint's definition.

Part 1 of this entry began by discussing why there may still be some confusion regarding the meaning of Workforce Management and why it is not necessarily as commonly and widely used by business professionals as we’d like to think, namely because;

  1. It is not uncommon to find several different terms used to describe the management of a company’s employees
  2. The use of inconsistent industry definitions
  3. The increasing complexity of enterprise WFM solutions themselves
  4. The blurring lines between Workforce and Talent Management
  5. Companies being at different stages of the WFM maturity curve, and simply;
  6. WFM means different things to different people

Part 2 will conclude with EntryPoint's definition for Workforce Management (WFM)

So, how do we define Workforce Management?

Enterprise Workforce Management Defined

EntryPoint Global defines WFM as solutions that enhance core HR functions. They insure that a company’s hourly or non-exempt employees are paid in accordance with company policies, and in compliance with labor laws, as well as automate attendance, scheduling and payroll management. They ensure employees get paid correctly; provide near real-time labor costing data to management; help optimize labor spend based on business demand and budgets; schedule individual workers based on availability and skill set such that the right hourly worker is at the right place at the right time – and this all managed across the entire enterprise.

WFM solutions can include:

  • Payroll
  • Time & Attendance
  • Workforce Scheduling
  • Benefits
  • Workforce Analytics
  • Labor Budgeting
  • Labor Forecasting
  • Absence Management
  • Task Management

And are increasingly being integrated with other areas of HCM to provide companies with an ever increasingly sophisticated visibility into the impact their entire workforce is having, at all stages of an employees lifecycle at all levels of the organization.

Let me know what you think. As always, I'm glad to hear your feedback.
