With the usual summer vacation time just around the corner, or friends at Kronos have released a new survey on the business impact of summer holidays and how best to manage them.

The Kronos sponsored survey, entitled Summer Forecast: Sunny With a High Probability of Absence provides us with some interesting insights. According to the study, "a whopping 69 percent of respondents employed full time plan to take vacation time between Memorial Day and Labor Day this year."  With such a large percentage of an organization's workforce planning on being out, proper scheduling and vacation (absence) management is even more crucial.

Of course, the impact of not planning properly and communicating your plans and expectations can mean significant costs to your organization, especially if you consider the following:

  • Lost productivity
  • Lower customer service
  • Reduced sales

and of course, all that with hardly a nudge on your labor cost.  In essence, you can expect to pay the same labor for less work.
